Biography[]

Shail grew up with her father, a famous archaeologist in the northern reaches of Cait. She traveled with her father's team to numerous dig sites, mostly ancient Caitian and Kzin ruins where she eagerly helped out, often finding more than the other team members. At the age of 15, Shail applied to the Ferasan School of Archaeology where she met Kau who is now a member of her crew.

The four years she spent consisted of constant studying, unlike Kau, who spent more time challenging fellow alumni to feats of bravery (challenging a group of students to jump off the roof of the seven story dorm is one of her more infamous ones). However their different approaches to their education they both graduated, Shail at the top the class. Shail returned to work with her father, Kau decided to rush off and join Starfleet (no doubt after more adventure). The Father/Daughter team is best known for their discovery of a pair of Iconian ruins on the southern pole of Ferasa. Soon after that discovery her father died in what's best called an "Accident", details are unknown.

Shail joined Starfleet as a civilian archaeologist, wanting to leave home after her father's death. She took more courses at Starfleet Academy, drowning herself in work. At the age of 24 Shail returned home and discovered an inactive Iconian Gateway within the same ruins she and her father had discovered. The Gate reportedly vanished later that month. She next traveled to a Progenitor site along side several other well known archaeologist. The entire team vanished three months into the dig, after which the ruins were quickly sealed and the disappearances covered up.

Shail alone was found four years later in cryo-stasis aboard an unmarked vessel by Cenari, a medical officer of the U.S.S. Orakuru. Shail is unaware of what happened to the other members of the team. She and Cenari began traveling together, returning to Cait. After 'retrieving' Kau from the U.S.S. Menoclese, Shail acquired a Reconnaissance Science Vessel, U.S.S. S'rrel. She now continues her work as an archaeologist.

The Crew[]

Cenari[]

Cenari

Cenari

Age: 265 (Appears ~28)
Species: Ahmini
Gender: Female
Occupation: First Officer, Psycologist

Biography:[]

Former medical officer of the U.S.S. Orakuru. Before joining Shail's crew Cenari led a rather uneventful career, often describing herself as "another cog in the machine". While on routine patrol the Orakuru stumbled upon a derelict, unmarked vessel. Cenari discovered Shail alone in a cryo-stasis chamber. Over the period of a month the two of them became close friends. Cenari formally filed for transfer and left with Shail. She is now the First Officer of the M'rrei and is very accepting of Horus, seeing him as a friend.

Jhret Perl[]

Jhret

Jhret

Age: 35
Species: Andorian
Gender: Male
Occupation: Chief Engineer, Warp Theorist

Biography:[]

Jhret was visiting Ferasa (Cait) on a journey to "find himself" when he suddenly found himself hand-picked as the Chief Engineer of the S'rrel by Shail. Deciding that "it was meant to be" he eagerly joined the crew. "I picked you because you looked like the adaptable type" is all Shail would tell him when he asked why he was picked over all the eager cadets at the Academy. Much to his dismay, the ship was 'stolen' from him with the arrival of Horus, who immediatley began to fiddle with the ship's systems. At first Jhret fought against the changes Horus made, but eventually finding them more effective, started working in tandem with the 'oddity'. Despite his 'adaptability' he still gets angry when Horus makes any major changes, or breaks something. Not one to stay quiet he'll spend several minutes yelling at Horus through consoles, spewing obscenities and demanding an explination (who happily explains any and all changes on request).

Kau[]

Kau

Kau

Age: 30
Species: Caitian
Gender: Female
Occupation: Self-Proclaimed Adventurer, Theoretical Tactician, Tactical Officer

Biography:[]

"She'd challenge a Horta to a staring contest if she could find the eyes" - Shail

Kau grew up on Ferasa with her mother, father, and older brother. Always outspoken, she would regularly perform dangerous stunts and challenging others to feats of bravery. She applied to the Feresan School of Archaeology on a whim, thinking it would be something new and interesting. Despite her high expectations it turned out to be a bit of a letdown. During her first year, she challenged Shail to jump off the Dorm building. One thing lead to another and the two became close friends. Coasting through school Kau managed to graduate with average grades. Seeking new adventures, Kau rushes off to join Starfleet and got an officer position on the U.S.S. Menoclese. She patiently waited for Shail to appear. Four years later Shail appeared, with Cenari in tow. Kau immediately left with them, the paperwork was apparently handled by Shail afterwards. Kau now heads the Tactical department on-board the M'rrei. She and Horus get along very well, often working together to bother Shail.

Horus[]

"It's better they try to figure things out on their own first and only give them vauge answers that don't always help" - Horus

The origins of Horus have been lost in the mists of time, however he's been known to have briefly provided aid to the Vaaspid, which existed 200,000 years ago. As an AI, Horus has access to many things, however he is careful about restricted materials and will only force his way in if the need arises.

Horus first made his appearance masking himself as an (intentionally) inaccurate Progenitor Star Map which found its way into the U.S.S. S'rrel's Computer Core which was under the command of Shail Arguei. He immediatley took root and gained control of the ship's systems and promptly introduced himself to the crew as a 'Friendly AI Companion'. The name 'Horus' was assigned to him by Shail, and then chose a snarky personality for himself by request of the crew (who later regretted it). Since then the 'partnership' between Shail and Horus has gone one well enough.

Horus is currently in control of the U.S.S. M'rrei.

Section 8[]

Section 8 the designation for the current iteration of Caretakers who are responsible for isolating or destroying dangerous objects or data known as "Artifacts".

Artifacts come in many shapes, sizes, and origins, however they are all considered a danger to Civilization. These Artifacts are then relocated to a special location known by Caretakers as "Apocrypha" where they are sorted and stored, far from the reach of those who would misuse them. Apocrypha exists in a pocket of 'Null Space' and is inaccessible to all but Caretakers. It is possible for someone to travel with a Caretaker, though there is a great risk that they will be seen as a threat, and forcefully expelled back into Normal Space. This can result in death.

A Caretaker can 'query' Apocrypha on a particular item, or groups of items. One must be very careful. If a query is too vague, it can easily overwhelm them, and even burn out synapses. A query can contain anything, and everything about an Artifact. From the species that created it, to where and when it was confiscated.

Upon a trip to Apocrypha one would find themselves in a white expanse that is vast, yet claustrophobic. The laws of physics do not apply here, only  the visitor's assumptions and expectations provide them with a sense of 'footing'. One could easily stand on the 'ceiling' or the 'walls', or even float in the 'air'. They would simply need to defeat their own assumptions (not an easy task for anyone). With no sense of depth, direction, or landmarks, movement direction or speed are near-impossible to gauge.

Each Caretaker has their own way into Apocrypha. No two approaches are the same. Most often, a Caretaker will bring an anchor with them, something that ties them back to their home Universe. They can use this anchor to instantaneously travel to it from anywhere within Apocrypha. A shortcut, per say, out.

When Caretakers are selected they are screened, by Apocrypha itself, for any signs that they may try to misuse their position. What exactly is used as a metric, is unknown. However, it has never failed to screen out any risks. If accepted, the new 'recruit' is then Imprinted upon so they can travel to Apocrypha on their own. They are also given a mental guardian some call the 'Watchdog', that protects against all forms of telepathic, empathic, and mechanical access to their minds unless they give explicit permission to do so. Even then, any attempts to access information marked off as 'no access' by Apocrypha, or the Caretaker, will immediately reject the intruder by force, a necessary action to protect the information foremost, then the Caretaker's life. Attempts to resist the rejection will more often than not, result in the death of the telepath, or destruction of the machine. Many telepaths say that the feeling inside of a Caretaker's mind is like that of being stalked by a predator.

Each individual is expected to exercise discretion when working with Artifacts and draw as little attention as possible to themselves and the activities of other Caretakers. Otherwise, they are left to their own devices.

There are rumors among the Caretakers that say if one was to go rouge, the Watchdog would turn against them and terminate their lives.
