The USS Thunderbird is a refitted Sovreign-Class vessel under the command of Captain Joe Kadar. She is currently fitted with an experimental Warp Drive Assembly configuration that allows her to go a Cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and go higher speeds for longer periods, unlike the Starfleet standard of Warp 6.0. She was launched at the Beta Antares Ship Yards in 2384 with a Refit in 2391, and is currently in Service with the ACI, but as yet is unassigned. She specializes in Deep Space Exploration and Long range or Urgent response missions (For example, Distress calls or Advance Scouting), although she is fully equipped and staffed for whatever situations she finds herself in.
Construction and Refit[]
The USS Thunderbird was constructed at the Beta Antares Ship Yards in 2384, on Stardate 725411.19 under a different Commanding officer and Crew. She was assigned the job of patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone for signs of Romulan incursion and Borg presence. At the time, she was one of the most advanced ships of her Class, and much of her Technology was routinely updated and used as a Testing bed for Anti-Borg technology and Weapons. She soon found herself the Lead vessel in a small Battle formation that was assigned Scouting missions deep in Unexplored Space.
She was soon chosen to be the Second participant of the new Orion-class Refit, whitch overhauled the ship's layout and added an Additional Warp Core, new power generation and Battery banks, and Replaced the Nacelles and Plasma Conduit system entirely with a new set. This allowed her to go to much greater speeds as if it was Normal (Her cruise speed was Warp 8.5) and produce the power neccesary to generate the Dual Warpfield around the ship. This, along with the additional Sensor banks, made her a Fast Response and Deep Exploration vessel (Somewhat like a Scout), and tests proved Sucsessful. However, the design was soon deemed by starfleet to be 'Too Expensive' compared to the older, more Reliable designs such as the Galaxy or Nebula, and was soon Phased out. only 5 Vessels of these configuration are known to exist (3 having been lost in an Attack on the Klingons, and Another scrapped for parts for Newer ships).
Present Day[]
in 2394, Following the 3-year testing period of the new Refit, she was released to Starfleet and participated in many armed Conflicts against the Borg. in 2398, her command was shifted to the newly-promoted Captain Joe Kadar, who immidiatley ordered additional modifications to the Weapons compliment and her Sheilds, replacting the outdated sensor arrays with smaller, newer versions and adding additional Impulse capabilities, as well as refitting her Torpedo bays with Quantum-type launchers and modifying her Phasers to a heavily modified and more efficient older version from the 2300s (Excelsior-type).

She was put to action on the Cardassian front near Bajor to aid in efforts against the True Way Rebels and has remained under the same captain Since. She remains a constant experimental testbed for Starfleet to test new technology on, and is commonly found on the reaches of Deep Space.
Recently, she has been temporarily reassigned to act against the Borg, who, as many personnell know, have once again invaded the Alpha Quadrant. Due to her age, there are perliminary talks of retiring her from her illustrious service and transferring her crew to another Galaxy-type ship or variant. However, these discussions are speculatory at best and unconfirmed as of yet.
